2025 NAIL TREND PREDICTIONS
We are already three weeks into 2025 and we have yet to see Hailey Bieber’s manicure, until then I am on my own with this one.
January blues.
I have been back to work for a couple of weeks now and navy is dominating (especially short), which I am absolutely not mad at. I predict that the navy hype will continue throughout the winter months until around the start of March. I also think we’ll see a lot of olive green and matcha shades around this time. Of course around all of the Valentine’s buzz if you’re not a pink or red girly.
Navy’s and olive greens are clean, classy and timeless, and they suits all skin tones!
Have you ever tried these colours on your nails? If not, this is your sign.
I also think the ‘clean girl mani’ will stay on trend not only for winter but all year round. Lot’s of French tip nails and plain nude and pink tones, with some glazed chrome on top of some sets too.
Spring chicken
Coming into the spring months, it is a given that pastel palettes will slowly start to creep in. (Controversial - does any other nail tech only like painting pastels as a block colour? I find that using pastels for nail art washes the nails out and the colour doesn’t pop. Let me know if you agree or disagree!)
Nail art wise, I predict lots of flowers (I would rather paint a cartoon character than flowers as I find them so difficult), as well as miniature fruits and lots of leaves. I think blooming gel flowers will be especially huge again, but I think that will be all year round and not just for spring. In particular, I think we will see a lot of strawberries, cherries and daisies from around March until June. Possibly some 3D nail art too as water droplets. In my opinion leaves will be high in demand for springtime as well, which I’m hoping for as they are super effective. However I think we will see significantly less chrome, glitter and twinkly star nail art around this time of year.
I also think bows will start blowing up again around spring in lots of different designs and colours. I think techs will become more creative with bows this year and they will stay on trend for the entirety of 2025.
Summer vibes
For summer I predict blooming gel galore. There are constantly new designs coming out using blooming gel and I think techs are only going to become more creative with it. You have the typical flower and croc print but I think there will be a new trend surrounding it this year - possibly some funky bold festival prints or different styles of flowers. I have already started to see a couple of blooming gel roses in the lead up to valentines day which are really effective, I’m using my mum as a guinea pig for her next set!
Fun fact - blooming gel nail art is my favourite to do at the moment.
Another trend for summer I think will be animal print. We saw cheetah print make a slight comeback in 2024 but I think it will be bigger this year. I think there will be a lot of zebra print, cheetah print, croc print, and potentially some giraffe and cow print. The brighter the better!
I also think that miniature fruits will stay on trend from spring into summer. However I feel that aura nails won’t be as popular as they were in 2024 and it will slowly start fading out. Techs - do you prefer using pigment powders or an airbrush for the aura effect? I can’t figure out for the life of me how to use mine! Although the James Charles Morphe palette works wonders for aura nail art. If you know you know.
A bright post-box red is always a client favourite for me in summer and I don’t think that will ever change. ‘Poppy’ by Glossify in particular.
Lastly, I am almost certain that star signs are going to blow up this year, but I think especially around the middle of the year. I love painting star signs so I hope I am right about this one!
A cosy autumn
My favourite season for nails. The colour palette and designs, chef’s kiss.
For autumn this year I predict lots of cherry red tones. I also think that tortoise print will be huge again, personally I don’t think that trend will ever die out (thank god!). Although I still think there will be a lot of gold tones for this season, I think silver will be the new gold this year. I think we will see less browns and burnt oranges and more reds/navy’s/greens in the mix. In my opinion autumn is less about the nail art and more about the colours.
Of course you have Halloween here as well, which is my favourite type of nail art to do. I think (hoping) we will see a lot of horror cartoon characters, with Ghostface being a firm favourite. I also think cat-eye nail designs will become more popular and creative this year especially for this season. If anyone could give me recommendations for good cat-eye gels to try that would be amazing!
Excluding the usual pumpkins and spiderwebs I think we will see a lot blood drops and blood splatters, and potentially some more clowns and skeletons/bones.
Winter Wonderland
Glitter. More glitter.
In 2024 we starting seeing Christmas holly everywhere on nails, and I think this will still be the case for Christmas 2025. The first hand-painted holly’s I done were actually this set and I couldn’t figure out the easiest way to do it for a good few attempts! I will try everything before saying I can’t do something.
Again bows will be huge in all different shapes and sizes, as well as the beloved snowflakes.
I am also envisioning lots of candy cane swirls and gingerbread men which were loved in 2024. I think Christmas is the most difficult to predict as there are limited design options and every year they are all so popular. For example; reindeer, Santa, gingerbread men, holly, the Grinch, penguins, bows, gonks, snowflakes, wreaths, stars, snowmen etc.
I do however we will see more ‘glass nails’ using cat-eye gel. These are super effective.
Colour wise for winter I’m thinking navy again, deep green tones, milky white and cherry reds. With lots of sparkles, silver in particular.
What is your favourite trend from 2024? And what are your predictions for 2025?
